With winter fast approaching, it’s time to master one of fashion’s best-kept secrets: layering. This ensemble from Christian Dior’s 2012 Spring RTW collection is the perfect example of how to create a little extra warmth by layering pieces you may already own and look completely put together. For cost weary college students, it’s great to be able to throw on your warm-weather staples to easily create a classy cold-weather outfit. If these items are already not in your closet, they are easy to find without putting a dent in your wallet.

Runway:

Sheer black button-up
3/4 length white top
Skinny black belt
Checkered pattern skirt
Strappy white heels
Black handbag

Your Way:

Black chiffon button-up, Forever 21, $23
3/4 sleeve cape top, Nordstrom, $26
Skinny black belt, Lands’ End Canvas, $30
Plaid pattern skirt, Lands’ End Canvas, $70
Strappy white heels, Zappos, $53
Black handbag, Urban Outfitters, $59

The best part about this look is its versatility. Not only can you wear all of these items next season when spring rolls around, but there are also countless variations of this one look. To change it up a bit, try a plaid or poplin button-up shirt instead, or swap the 3/4 length blouse for a sweater. Add some tights or booties when the weather gets colder, and don’t be afraid to play around by using unique patterns in the look. The possibilities are endless, which is what makes this a great look to style your own way.
