With Thanksgiving around the corner, it’s hard to focus when all you can think about is a day full of eating and appreciating with family and friends. In a celebration about being grateful, there’s no reason not to look, and feel great as well! With new fall trends and the help of accessories, this holiday season can be cute AND comfortable.
When we think about Thanksgiving, our mind naturally associates colors like browns, oranges, and darker reds. While those colors are definitely seasonal, they’re a bit predictable. This season puts a spin on brown with neutrals like cream, beige and camel that really give your skin a radiant fall glow. Bold colors like plum, emerald and mustard are also perfect for this holiday because they provide a pop of color that avoids the cornucopia color scheme. For those who like a more eccentric look, leopard print and leather trim is popping up more and more and can really spice up an outfit when paired with solid pieces.
If you plan on falling into a full-blown food coma after the delicious turkey, creamy mashed potatoes and tart cranberry sauce, bulky sweaters will be your best friends this season. While this may sound unflattering, there are many ways to work the bulk and bring out your chic feminine side.
A great way to flatter your figure in a bulky sweater is with a great belt. Be it a cable knit sweater or an oversized cardigan, a thicker belt creates a slouchy, more casual look while a thin belt gives any outfit a classic edge. What’s the best part about the belt? After all the food and photos, you can take it off! In order to keep looking fresh, you can pair your sweater with some straight leg dark wash jeans and heeled mini boots for a fun complete look.
A trendy, yet still warm alternative to jeans is a pair of shorts with some funky tights. For those of you who prefer staying closer to the ground, flats or knee high riding boots put a rustic finish on this look and create the ultimate cute and comfortable Thanksgiving outfit.
If you’re headed to a fancier party, fear not! Because even if you don’t like dresses, with the help of some accessories and newly trending sequins, a simple sweater is easily glammed up. For a retro look, pair a blouse or fitted sweater with some wide leg pants and throw on a chunky necklace as a statement piece.
If you feel like showing more skin, a bandage or sequin skirt paired with a cowl neck sweater or cardigan is the perfect balance of cozy and chic. To counter the cold when you’re still dying to wear a skirt, don’t hesitate to throw on tights! Patterned and opaque tights are everywhere this season and add personality to any outfit.
When cocktail party bound, don’t be afraid to be daring in a dress. This season’s sweater dress has been reinvented into a sophisticated and weather conscious piece that is a must-have for any woman living in the cold. If the below-zero weather doesn’t faze you, bare those arms and legs and go bold in a sequined dress that’s sure to turn heads.
Although living in Wisconsin definitely limits the wardrobe, investing in a stylish and durable winter coat lets you wear your favorite short skirts and dresses all year round.
