Winter 2011: Transitioning Your Wardrobe

by Heba Elorbany

Although it’s not officially winter until late December, the weather here in Wisconsin often challenges that claim.  As we transition from crisp, cool fall days to slightly more uncomfortable degrees, so must our wardrobes. Here are some tips for staying warm while looking cool.

Tights and leggings: I wear skirts and dresses more than anyone I know, but they are obviously not the warmest of outfit choices. Luckily, it’s easy to keep your stems warm with opaque tights or a good pair of leggings. Every girl should have a couple of black, navy, or grey tights to wear under skirts and dresses this winter. If you’re looking for something extra warm, look for sweater tights in fun patterns.

Cardigans and loose sweaters: Investing in heavier cardigans in dark or neutral tones or heavier sweaters to throw over your favorite fall outfits could be just the trick if you’re looking for a minor modification to your wardrobe. Additionally, this allows for mixing and matching for entirely new looks for your fall outfits.

Vests: Just like cardigans and sweaters, vests are great for layering over your fall outfits for a warm and chic addition to our outfits. From furry to knit to plaid, vests are always a good idea. For extra warmth, try layering on top of your sweaters.

Sweater Dresses: Need I say more?

Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize: With winter accessories, that is! Cozy hats, long scarves, and gloves galore will keep you nice and warm and looking great. A great way to spice up your outfit is to work in colors with your winter accessories.

Remember, staying warm is the name of the game, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your style!
