In this chilly weather, I’ve got only one thing on my mind: café drinks. I’m looking for every hot drink I can get my cold hands on, and as often as possible. Coffee, lattes, hot cocoa—you name it, I want it. ‘Tis the season, right? And with the holiday season swiftly approaching, you better believe the holiday specials at your local coffee shops are in full swing. I’ll eliminate some of the guesswork and tell you what I think of a few local specials:
- Peets Coffee & Tea in the Memorial Union:
Ask and you shall receive. I asked a barista at Peet’s for her favorite seasonal drink and wound up with a piping hot peppermint mocha. If you’re looking for a “healthy alternative,” a phrase with which I am entirely unfamiliar, you’d better look elsewhere. But if you’re willing to commit to the calories, a peppermint mocha from Peet’s is a delicious way to get into the holiday spirit.
- Indie Coffee on Regent Street:
I’m an avid chai tea fan, and who doesn’t crave chocolate every once in a while? When I saw “Chocolate Chai” on the menu, I just couldn’t help myself. The combination was successful: it’s an interesting alternative to a hot cocoa or chai latte.
- Steep & Brew on State
If hot cocoa is more your style, try a Candy Bar (and yes, that’s a drink!) from Steep & Brew. The subtle hazelnut flavor was definitely a pleasant surprise. Think Nutella hot chocolate—you can’t go wrong with that!
