Trend Alert: Midriffs

by Marlee Katz

This spring revealing midriff is making quite the comeback, and if you are going to take the risk and bare your tummy you must do it right. With warm weather on the way, why not try out the midriff trend and show off your youthful figure. We’re only young for so long.

Designers like D&G, Pucci and Miu Miu all showcased the midriff trend in their spring collections. Models strutted down the runway in tiny little tops and high waisted bottoms.

There are a few guidelines when baring your tummy. Always wear high waisted bottoms and never expose too much skin. Showing a sliver of midriff is much more stylish and attractive than baring a whole tummy, regardless of how flat it is. When wearing clothing with cutouts always pair the garment with the right accessories and make it look classy, never too risqué.

When wearing this trend during the day, try a cropped t-shirt with high waisted shorts or a long skirt. I love this look on Nasty Gal; high waisted floral shorts with a cropped polka dot tube. There is just enough skin showing to look trendy and not overly revealing. Throwing on an oversized sweater makes the look more casual and comfortable. Take the cropped look to the next level with this oatmeal cardigan and high waisted velvet shorts. This look is still appropriate for the daytime, but could be spiced up with chunky heels and jewelry at night.

For a night on the town, try a cropped tank with a cute skirt or pair of high waisted sknnies and heels. This Urban Outfitters blouse would be perfect with black pants and Jeffrey Campbell Litas. Try the cutout trend with this chiffon dress by Asos or this sexy Free People number.

Revealing your midriff can be done right as long as you follow the guidelines. Keep it high waisted, never bare too much, and keep it classy.
