Fashion News Recap: Beginnings and Endings

If you drool over well-made luxuries you may have missed out this past week. Hermès held its Festival Des Métiers in three locations across the United States, where they brought their craftsmen to demonstrate the creation of their one-of-a-kind pieces. We learned that some of their famous scarves contain more than 50 colors, and since they’re all custom-made, each article requires 50 individual silk screens for the full effect. What artistry!

Fashion month is flying by! With New York and London Fashion Weeks behind us, we’re now busy enjoying the chic Italian designs presented at Milan Fashion Week. Shows like Prada, Moschino, Versace, and Emilio Pucci were one of a kind. Yet in the fast-paced world of fashion, this week is already coming to a close. See you in a few days in Paris!

The numbers are in, and the NYFW show most tweeted about? Victoria Beckham! With just over 8,800 mentions, the former Spice Girl surpassed the likes of Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Alexander Wang and Michael Kors. She also gained over 57,000 new followers on the social media site, helping secure her success this season.

Gilt Groupe, the operator of the discount designer website Gilt.com, has announced they will be closing their luxury menswear site Park & Bond, folding it into Gilt MAN, the company’s main men’s apparel business. Thanks to changes like these, Gilt Groupe looks to most likely earn a profit by next year, a first for the brand.

If you have spare time while admiring all the new collections, be sure to check out the street style of fashion month. Any fashion site, from Style.com to Vogue.com, documents the best of those attending the shows. Each ensemble gives ideas styling ideas for the season, so get inspired!
