This week, the sixth and final season of Gossip Girl premieres. Although I’m nearly 22 years old, for me, the ending of gossip girl marks the ending of my teenage years. But for many Gossip Girl is more than the end of an era. Since day one, the program has given viewers tons of drama, suspense and above all, great clothing. Gossip Girl continuously raises the bar for television fashion and keeps girls around the country up-to-date on popular trends. As we turn to the beginning of the end, it’s time to reflect on the fabulous fashion that has been a major part of these Upper East Siders’ lives since day one.

In its first season, we were introduced to a group of privileged high schoolers that made up the cast of Gossip Girl. Each character fulfilled a specific role in their group of friends and dressed accordingly. Although each character is always dressed impeccably well, Serena and Blair seem to not only complement each other, but stand out from the rest. Costume designer Eric Damon does a fine job of making girls across the country swoon for clothing week after week – It’s not often that I find myself longing to raid television characters’ closets.

Over the years, we’ve seen the characters change from school girls to couture queens, while still keeping true to their personalities. Serena, the bohemian It Girl, dresses in classic pieces boots, short hemlines, scarves and her signature beachy waves, that give off a care-free attitude. While Blair, the Queen B, presents herself as very put-together, dressing in preppy outfits topped with fun, signature accessories like headbands and colored tights.

With internships, engagements, affairs, dozens of parties and departure for college, the girls’ style has evolved and we see them now in more mature outfits; the 100th episode peaking with Vera Wang wedding and bridesmaid gowns. What will the sixth season hold? Rumor has it that there will be another wedding gown and a possible return of Blair’s infamous headbands. Maybe we’ll even find out who the real Gossip Girl is. XOXO
