Street Smart: Fall Chic

by Paige Schultz, Fashion Writer

Cold and rainy fall weekends always make me nostalgic for the days spent curled at home in my coziest clothing, watching movies whilst sipping my mother’s hot chocolate. This wistfulness may be a result of college life, but I like to think that it’s especially this time of year that invites me to stay within my comfort zone. Fashionably speaking, I like to think of fall as not only a time to embrace new trends, but also a time to divert back to the classics in one’s wardrobe. It’s the season to pull out your chunkiest knits, worn leather boots and layering essentials.

Yet ironically, it was after spotting Michelle on Friday, amidst nothing remotely close to dreary weather, that I was immediately reminded of these feelings so associated with fall. Wearing an ensemble of neutral colors and a cardigan that (at the time) I wished I could swap for my less-than-cozy trench, this UW-Madison freshman looked cute yet comfortable. When asked about her personal style, she described her love of fall by noting “scarves, cardigans and skinnies” as her favorite staples of the season. It seems that, after all, I’m not the only Badger who finds comfort in the fall.
