Fashion News Recap: Holiday Excitement

Having once worked with Peter Som, designers Britt Cosgrove and Marina Polo have launched their own brand, SVILU, an eco-conscious fashion line featuring environmentally sustainable designs. The clothes use organic cotton, clean lines, and great pops of color, with much of the praise due to the assortment of wearable basics. After their first showing for Spring 2013 many are excited to see what they will produce next.

 

Known for its fair prices and convenience, online retailer ASOS announced plans for expansion. While most brands have experienced hardship given the recent economic downturn, ASOS has seen a period of general success, noting growth in their overseas markets. With a rumored bid from Amazon.com, who knows where we’ll see the British e-commerce site in the future!

What do Marilyn Monroe, Nicole Kidman and Brad Pitt have in common? They all love Chanel No. 5! It was recently announced that famous actor and beloved heartthrob, Brad Pitt, would be the new face of the iconic fragrance. In Chanel’s latest campaign, he is featured stating, “It’s not a journey. Every journey ends, but we go on. The world turns, and we turn with it. Plans disappear, dreams take over, but wherever I go, there you are, my luck, my fate, my fortune. Chanel No. 5, inevitable.” The ad is facing controversy due to the male actor endorsing a known female perfume, and thus only time will tell how the actor’s role affects sales.

 

Famed brand, Philosophy, has hired a new creative director, Natalie Ratabesi. Of the transition, past director Alberta Ferretti, said, “I am confident that Natalie, with her femininity and boundless energy, will best express the fundamental spirit of the Philosophy collection.” After working under Christian Dior, Oscar de la Renta, Valentino, Gucci and Ralph Lauren, Ratabesi clearly holds the experience necessary to head the brand. Her first collection will debut in Autumn/Winter 2013-14.

Harrods has always been noted as a magical department store, yet for this holiday season they will take this idea to a whole new level, with store windows displaying designer-interpreted Disney princesses looks. A preview of the mouth-dropping gowns just launched this past week, with the powerhouse names behind each dress adding excitement to the amazing concept. From Oscar de la Renta’s Snow White to Valentino’s Belle and Marchesa’s Ariel, its fair to say adults will once again want to play dress up!
