It started as a typical Street Smart morning. Bundled up with a Starbucks chai beverage in hand, I was on the prowl looking for my latest muse. Yet as I looked around campus, all I saw were students donning basic, wintery layers in drab neutrals, all in an effort to keep warm just as the cold November weather had begun to settle in. Needless to say, inspiration was difficult to find.
However, as luck would have it, I spotted Janalle, whose bright cobalt blue sweater stood out from the drearily dressed. I immediately fell in love with her chunky coral earrings, geometrically patterned flats and light-wash denim jacket. She has that cool, urban style that so many UW-Madison students seem to gravitate toward, but instead of blending in, she made a statement that was all her own. Additional quirks, like her oversized frames and bright pink lipstick, gave her look an extra kick, complementing her outgoing and vivacious personality. Eclectic, bold and sensational, Janalle is a fashionista that’s not afraid to make a statement.
Here’s the breakdown:
Wearing: Light Denim Jacket – Gap; Cobalt Blue Sweater – Target; Black Denim Jeans – Gap; Patterned Blue Loafers – Target; Forest Green Bag – Urban Outfitters; Round Coral Earrings – H&M
Personal Style: “My personal style is very eclectic. I wake up and try to find the brightest things in my closet and put it on, but it kind of varies with my mood so it can change.”
Inspiration/Icons: “I get a lot of my inspiration from just things that I see around me. It’s like different geometric shapes and patterns that appeal to me, like animal print. Everything I see just kind of sparks inspiration.”
Favorite Places to Shop: “Oh goodness, I have so many! It kind of depends on what I’m looking for. If I want something fun and cheap I’ll probably go to Forever 21 because they have so much stuff there, but I also like Gap and thrift stores a lot. I also like makemechic.com for online shopping. I’m definitely a fan of affordable style.”
