An American Girl in Paris

Paris in the Winter

Paris. Stunning and iconic, it’s the city of dreamers and romantics; great literature, rich history and art. There’s something special about this place. Maybe it’s the air or the water, but there’s a je ne sais quoi element to everything about Paris. Even though it’s a developed first world nation like the U.S., the French have a longer history filled with the richness of royalty, the feist of revolution and the beauty of the art created in between. Everything is beautiful, from the Cité des Fleurs in the city to the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles and the view from the top of the Eiffel Tower which lies in wait to be admired and appreciated.

Enter: me, a fashion-obsessed undergraduate with a taste for adventure. They say Paris is magic, and I intend to find out if Ernest Hemingway really does appear after midnight in a back alley, and if the streets shine like silver in the rain. I want to browse designer stylings at the Galleries Lafayette, walk along the Seine, muse over the Mona Lisa and eat baguettes to my heart’s content. My to-do list is miles long and I’ll be writing about everything from the street style, food and city life, to my classes at the Institute Catholique and the Accent Center, and student-teaching in a French school.

Follow along every week for a new entry and feel free to leave comments, questions or topics for the weekly posts or suggestions for places to explore. If you’re interested in the program you can find the details on the UW in Paris page of the study abroad website.

A Bientôt Madison, Bonjour Paris!
