Out of the sea of students wearing everything from parkas to t-shirts on this confusingly spring-like day, this amazing two-toned military jacket caught my eye. It was one of those pieces I’ve only seen on sites like Pinterest, or featured in various magazines, but have never had the pleasure of seeing in real life. And boy, was this girl rocking it!

Meghan exemplifies the feminine-rocker look. I absolutely love when girls pair high-waisted shorts and tights, and with the addition of combat boots and an extra layer of thigh-high socks, her outfit looks as warm as it is stylish! Her white, lace bandeau peeking out from underneath her Guns n’ Roses tank provided the perfect amount of femininity to her ensemble, not to mention her striking accessories including a unique two-finger ring and fabulous pair of Prada glasses. Finished with more layering in her sweater and military-style jacket, Meghan clearly knows how to bridge the gap between girly girl and rocker chic.

Here’s the breakdown:

Name: Meghan Stark

Major: Graphic Design

From: Milwaukee, WI

Wearing: Military Jacket – Forever21; Sweater – Urban Outfitters; Guns n’ Roses Tank – Forever21, Denim Shorts – Mom’s, repurposed; Combat Boots – Target; Two-Finger Ring – Forever21; Irish Ring – Dance Competition; Necklace – Her Grandmother; Lace Bandeau – Ragstock; Black Glasses – Prada

Personal Style: “It really depends on my mood. Probably half-grungy, half-girly. I love fun skirts, and wearing dresses and skirts even in winter!”

Inspiration/Icons: “I’m really inspired by movies and their style. I just saw Freaks and Geeks again.”

Favorite Places to Shop: “I like to shop at, H&M, Forever21, and department and consignment stores primarily. I use band websites and Hot Topic for music and other graphic t-shirts, and am starting to dabble in eBay clothing purchases. I try to be conservative with spending on my clothing and splurge more on shoes and handbags instead.”

Excited for Spring: “Pastel nail colors.”

Favorite Piece in Her Closet: “My pair of Jeffrey Campbell Lita’s that have studs on the heels. They get a lot of attention but I’m always excited about them when I see them. Plus they add like four inches! Oh, and my skull candy headphones.”

Style Advice: “Look at your media influences. Movies, TV shows, music. Chances are that you’ll like those looks – embody the media you consume.”

  1. This falls into the” better late than never” category. Just found a post of my niece, Meghan Stark, posing as a rocker chick in Madison and looking every inch the part. Kudos to Moda Magazine for running the shot. She’s now a hard working web designer and has refined her skills at thrift store shopping. On a recent business trip to Houston, Texas, she spent her down-time with me at a recently opened GoodWill store where she found Free People flares, two pair of high top wedge sneakers and a sweet ecru lace tunic, among other treasures. Style on a budget! She truly does ROCK!
