Each year the Couture Council of the Fashion Institute of Technology presents it’s Artistry of Fashion award, with this year’s award going to designer Michael Kors. He will receive his award at a lunch event on September 4th. Along with his sportswear designs, Kors is a philanthropist at heart, having notably established a yearly Michael Kors Scholarship at FIT.
Though having just released a collection for Kohl’s, Derek Lam is back at it again, announcing that consumers can now shop his line 10 Crosby Derek Lam through the online vendor, Amazon! This makes the brand more accessible to a larger audience. The online boutique features the Spring 2013 designs, which includes a total of 16 pieces. The president of Amazon Fashion was noted for stating “ We want to raise our own bar for presentation and innovation around the shopping experience, and partnerships like this one that elevate the whole experience give her [the shopper] content that she might not have received otherwise, and immerse and shop the brand in a way that she can’t today.”
It was recently announced that Fashion’s Night Out would not occur in the United States this year. After four years of the event, Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America and NYC & Co. have put the night on hiatus due to its pull on designers, who noted their desire to focus budgets on more individual projects. The occasion was originally created in 2009 to help the retail industry during the economic depression.
Rob Caldwell, the PR director at Badgley Mischka, has announced he will be leaving the company. Caldwell will be moving his talent to well-known jewelry brand David Yurman, where he will serve as director of VIP relations. He has declined to comment on the event.
