In the blur of North Faces and Ugg boots, Kylie Peterson is a breath of fresh air. Twice a week I see her walk into my Creative Media Messages class and I am always excited to see what she put together. Kylie mixes polished pieces with a rock-ish glam style for an effortless, yet standout look.
Whether its her classy beige coat with the quilted leather sleeve detail or polka dotted jeans paired with edgy top or boots, Kylie never fails to mix juxtaposing styles in the right way.
Here’s the breakdown:
Name: Kylie Peterson
Major: Journalism and Mass Communication
Hometown: Plymouth, WI
Wearing: (from top to bottom) My jacket is from Zara, and the Kanye West tank is a find from H&M. As far as my accessories go: the necklace is J.Crew, my rose quartz ring is from a vintage shop, the sterling silver ring on my index finger was handmade in Thailand, and the last ring is from a little boutique store in Rome. My pants and booties are also Zara.
Personal Style: It’s a bit of an eclectic mix and tends to vary with my mood, but overall I really enjoy pairing juxtaposing styles together (example: vintage finds with modern trends). Even though I try to step out of my comfort zone by purchasing bright colors or patterns, I always seem to gravitate more strongly towards neutral palettes.
Favorite Trend for Spring: I love the monochromatic look for spring, especially in really bright jewel tones like cobalt or emerald.
Inspiration/Icons: Jenna Lyons, J.Crew’s President and Executive Creative Director. She is beyond stylish, business savvy, and just seems like the kind of woman you want to be best friends with.
Best Fashion Advice: “You can never be overdressed or overeducated.” –Oscar Wilde (I guess this is more of a life mantra than advice, but I think it works).
Favorite Item of Clothing in Her Closet: It’s a tie between my leather jacket from Anthropologie or this silky, blush colored tank I got years ago from Urban Outfitters. Neither of them are terribly eye catching, but they’re both pieces I go to when I’m having a fashion crisis; they never let me down.
