Fashion News Recap: Lilly Pulitzer, Beyonce, Kate Young

by Danielle Zabrauskas, Fashion News Correspondent

Known for her love of bright prints and classic shifts, famed fashion designer Lilly Pulitzer has died at the age of 81. She began honing her talents when creating dresses for herself that would be more stylish, yet practical, while working in her family’s citrus groves. After receiving multiple requests from friends for similar garments, Pulitzer realized she was on to something. Regarding her passing, the Lilly Pulitzer brand issued a statement saying, “Lilly has been a true inspiration to us and we will miss her.”

As many have received their Costume Institute Benefit invitations, the inclusion of a special guest was a welcome surprise. For this year’s gala, Beyoncé will sit as honorary chair! With the announcement, the global superstar joins powerhouses such as Anna Wintour, Lauren Santo Domingo, Rooney Mara and Riccardo Tisci in helping host the event.

Just in time for spring weather is the launch of Kate Young’s collaboration with Target! The stylist to the stars worked with the brand to create a line of semiformal dresses, set for release on April 14. Target has seen great success in past partnerships with well-known designers and industry insiders. The pieces will range from $29.99 to $89.99.

It appears Diane von Furstenberg, well-known designer and CFDA President, is making a good recovery after last week’s skiing accident. The 66-year old broke her shoulder in three places on the slopes, a terrible spill that comes just two years after breaking her nose and cheekbone in a similar accident.
