We all know that the only way to survive Madison’s winter is to “layer, layer, layer,” and BCBG Max Azria’s collection was all about just that for their fall 2013 collection. Often identified as a Los Angeles brand, Max and Lubov Azria exude a relaxed and laid-back lifestyle in their collection. Featuring looks composed of slouchy knits over silk shift dresses, models were accessorized with black beanies that gave an edgier stylistic appeal.
However, the true inspiration for their fall 2013 collection came from a more global view that extended beyond the brand’s Californian roots. Using traditional garb from Istanbul along with rich hues and patterns, Lubov explained that he, “loved their whole approach to dressing,” and it is evident from key pieces of the collection. These items, which include a quilted leather parka with a fur-trimmed hood and silk shift dresses, emulate Turkish style with their silk textiles, mosaic prints and extensive embroideries.
In the look featured here, layering and the contributions from the Middle East can be seen. The magnificent tribal-patterned sweater is layered over a simple silk sheath with the simplicity of the dress allowing for the pattern of the sweater and the pants to truly stand out. The matching patterned pants have a loose feel, exaggerating the relaxed and laid-back aura of the outfit as well as the collection. However, the “must have” of this outfit that pulls the look together is the black beanie. Drawing inspiration from many interesting places, this Californian-Turkish look can easily be brought into Madison territory, allowing us to emulate runway style in truly practical fashion.
