Basics – we love them and we can’t live without them. Such is especially true in the winter, when our perfect pair of black leggings and our slouchy white tees become the pieces we ultimately gravitate toward. Easy and comfortable to wear, the neutrality and simplicity of these pieces situate them in a comfort zone, which we often lean on as our mornings get more hectic during the final stretch of the semester. However in donning such a plain ensemble we are left to question, “How do we avoid looking boring in our basics?
When I spotted Isabel in Walgreens on Wednesday, I found my answer. Composed mostly of basics, Isabel’s outfit avoided mundane territory by incorporating a bright red infinity scarf that added a pop of color to her ensemble. Additionally, Isabel’s black leather jacket helped to give her look an effortlessly cool vibe.
Undoubtedly, Isabel provides students with a fantastic example for how to dress once temperatures reach their freezing mark as she proves that brightly-colored pieces can liven up a potential snooze-fest of an outfit. Incorporating different textures and colors, Isabel demonstrates that there is no need to toss your cherished basics aside in order to make your style stand out this winter. Rather, by taking a page from Isabel’s book, you can rock your minimalist pieces with exciting, vivid accessories.
