A Note From the Editor in Chief:
“Happy Holidays Moda! Each year, we share our Moda Family Traditions from readers, writers, and editors to ring in the holiday season away from home. If you have a tradition you would like to share, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. We hope you enjoy our tradition and make a few of your own this year.”
Recently, when my brother and I went off to college, my parents moved out of our childhood home. As a result, most of our family traditions have been modified or changed. One tradition, though, has withstood the test of time. Every Thanksgiving morning, my parents wake my brother and me up, much earlier than we want to be awake. We blare The Peanuts soundtrack throughout the entire house. We then help ourselves to a breakfast based off of what The Peanuts eat in their Thanksgiving special: popcorn, pretzel sticks, buttered toast, jelly beans, and grape juice in wine glasses. Somehow, these flavors combine into one of the most delicious breakfasts of the year.
This breakfast is my personal favorite because it is one of the few times we are together as an immediate family. It normally includes lots of laughs and stories of what we have been up to during our time at college. It is a relaxing start to a wild day with 50 members of our extended family in a very small farmhouse. I hope this tradition will be around for many more years to come.
