Dating in college is difficult. Finding a date is hard enough, but paying for it is even worse. Most college students are too broke to wine-and-dine their significant others, so many couples stay at home with the overdone “Netflix date”. Don’t get me wrong, I love binge watching television and movies, but real dates are typically a lot more exciting. Here are ways to go on fun interesting dates without breaking the bank.
Concerts are generally considered “expensive,” but a lot of shows at the Orpheum or the Majestic in Madison often offer students discounts to go to shows for under $20 a ticket. If you’re feeling extra stingy with your cash, take your date to a WUD Music event. They put on free shows at the Rathskellar, Memorial Union Terrace, and Union South completely free of charge!
With the leaves changing and the weather cooling, fall is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors. Bring your bae with you to go apple picking. Spend the day exploring apple orchards and enjoying the fall colors. As long as you don’t buy too many apples, it’s reasonably affordable.
If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, bring your date to a haunted house. It’s unique way to get in the mood for the Halloween season, and it’s an even better way to “closer” to your date. Haunted houses near the Madison range from $15-20 a person. They’re slightly more expensive, but worth the price for the season!
Whether you want to cook something or just make a food cart run, turning a date into a picnic can be a very sweet and thoughtful way to get to know each other. If you don’t want to walk all the way to picnic point, set a blanket out on Bascom for a gorgeous view.
Henry Vilas Zoo is an excellent option for animal lovers. You can get fresh air while walking around and watching your favorite animals together. There are many donation boxes throughout the zoo if you would like to make a small donation, but otherwise, this option is completely free.
You don’t have to spend a fortune to have a great date. There are tons of cheap options to create memorable fall evenings with your significant other. Take a break from the Netflix routine and take your date out for a night they’ll never forget.
