CFDA Releases Guidebook to for Transitioning to In-Season Calendar
As more designers begin to convert their brands to in-season fashion calendars—that is, ‘see now-buy now’—it has become apparent that this change is here to stay. What’s not so clear is how this change will play out. The Council of Fashion Designers of America just released a guidebook to help designers establish and achieve their goals in the new in-season format. This guidebook outlines “an inventory of tactical ideas and levers to implement change and mitigate some of the logistical/operational challenges,” according to CFDA’s website. For those seeking to implement in-season actions for September or February, the CFDA suggests the following instructions:
- Define your strategy
- Previewing the future collection
- Planning the consumer relevant in-season event
- Key considerations
- Review your strategy
Jason Wu Launches Lower-Priced Sister Line GREY Jason Wu
Designer Jason Wu has demonstrated his creative abilities through his namesake line and Hugo Boss womenswear. As if that weren’t enough, Wu has revealed that he will be launching another sister collection this June, GREY Jason Wu. After being inspired by a personal friend’s style, Wu dove into a year’s worth of work designing “clothes that have a sense of whimsy and uncomplicated chic,” according to the designer. For this collection, he will be a collaborating with Hunt Slonem, an American painter and print-maker, to create affordable pieces ranging from $295 to $1,395 in price.
Rihanna to Release Beauty Line Fenty Beauty
Rihanna is determined to prove to us all that there is absolutely nothing she can’t do. In fact, the singer has expanded her talents once again after recently signing a deal with the Kendo division of LVMH, the French luxury goods conglomerate, to launch her complete beauty line by the name Fenty Beauty for September 2017. While Rihanna has made a name for herself in the fashion world, this is not her first endeavor in the beauty industry. In the past, Rihanna worked alongside MAC to produce cosmetic collections and Viva Glam lipsticks. She’s also dabbled in making fragrances with Parlux Ltd. With that being said, the release of Fenty Beauty will surely stir up ample excitement from fans.
Rihanna is not the only one to expand her fashion facets. Kendall and Kylie announced that they will be releasing a collection of 18 handbags this fall to be sold at Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue among other retailers.
The First Monday in May, a film documenting the behind-the-scene works of the 2015 Met Ball, China: Through the Looking Glass, premiered on Friday, April 15th.
