Beauty Basics for Winter Pampering
By Cassie Hurwitz, Lifestyle Staff Writer
Winter makes it difficult to throw off the warm blanket, fuzzy socks and cozy sweats that protect you from the cold. However, this constant cover may lead you to neglect of certain important steps in your self-care routine, particularly taking care of your skin. Cold weather is your skin’s worst enemy, resulting in a dry, dull face. To address these facial concerns, put down the hot chocolate, and pick up the face mask; it is time for a pamper night.
While there are many ways to adjust your routine, the most important steps to include are exfoliating, hydrating and treatment. Slough away dry, dead skin, then follow up with a few products to restore moisture. It is best to combine these with either a shower or bath once you finish all other responsibilities for the night. Use the following products to help out with your pamper night.
The Body Scrub:
While in the shower or bath, cover your arms, legs, feet and any other dry areas with this product. The delicious scent will relax you not only in the moment but also hour later when it still lingers on your skin. A scrub will help to improve the smoothness of your skin by getting rid of dry patches and rough areas.
The Hair Mask:
Apply this after shampooing as a replacement for standard conditioner. Leave it on for five to ten minutes before rinsing, and prepare to be left will gorgeous, smooth locks. There are many different formulas of hair masks, but a standard version targets moisturizing the mane. Try to focus the mask on the middle and ends of your hair. Adding to your roots and scalp will result in excess oil and an extremely greasy texture.
The Face Mask:
Smother this all over your face and neck upon stepping out of the shower. It is important to find a mask that targets your specific skin concerns, like clogged pores or redness. If you do not need any specific concentration, look for something that will nourish, smooth and perfect your skin.
The Body Cream:
Find something that is thicker than a daily moisturizer, like a body cream or butter. Use this all over your body to provide maximum hydration. It helps to sit for a few minutes while the cream sinks in. Speed up the moisturizing process by putting on a pair of thick, cotton socks or cozy sweats. Combine this with an exfoliating product, and you will see smoother skin in no time.
The Face Treatment:
Serums are an optional addition. However, they can do wonders for the appearance and texture of your skin. Many of them have high price tags, but the longevity of the product makes them work the investment. After washing off your facemask, cleansing and applying moisturizer, take a small amount of the treatment in your palms, and spread it over your cheeks, chin, forehead and nose. Multiple uses will result in fresh, glowing skin.

The Lip Treatment:
Finally, ensure that your lips are smooth and soft. Use a pea-sized amount of lip scrub to take away any dead skin, and then apply a hydrating lip mask on top. This will sink into your lips and provide complete hydration.

Do not forget to light a few candles, put on a relaxing playlist and release all your pent-up stress. This process may seem extensive, but pampering your skin will pamper your mind. Next time you feel tense, try out some “me time” and give yourself a night of relaxation.
