Dolce & Gabbana’s Not-So-Great Show: Cancelled

Dolce & Gabbana has gotten itself involved in quite the controversy. The label planned to host a spectacular and extravagant fashion show on November 21st called, “The Great Show,” in Shanghai. The show was canceled, however, as a result of the backlash against its promotional content on social media specifically, which allegedly contained both racist and sexist sentiments in its depiction of China. Called “trivializing,” by some, the social media promos painted Shanghai as a “backward and underdeveloped,” according to Glamour.

Record-Breaking Holiday Sales on Amazon

The days following Thanksgiving often fall under scrutiny as they feed into the culture of American consumerism, though 2018’s sales records on Amazon specifically highlight the fact that despite this cynicism, people are shopping more on these days in big numbers.  According to WWD, 2018’s Cyber Monday (November 26th) was the websites biggest day in sales in the company’s history. Shop til’ you drop, but do it from the comfort of your own home.

Cindy Crawford Launches Health & Wellness Company, Ladder

Model, Cindy Crawford, is well-known for her iconic looks, but she’s making headlines for her move towards inner beauty as she opens Ladder, a health and wellness company specializing in direct-to-consumer nutritional supplements. Interestingly, Crawford partnered with LeBron James and Arnold Schwarzenegger in the company’s launch, making the three, perhaps, one of the most unexpected business trilogies to modern date. Ladder launched on November 27, 2018.

PETA Recognizes Ethical Brands for 2018

According to Harper’s Bazaar, a “growing number of labels turned their backs on the fur industry in support of the animal rights movement,” this year. In 2018, it’s incredible to see higher-street retailers taking the ethical route to better source their designs.
