Influencer, Feminist Icon and Self-Love Connoisseur: Serena Kerrigan
In creating Let’s Fucking Date, Serena Kerrigan adapts the dating world to meet the demands of a new society.

Influencer Serena Kerrigan is known as the “Queen of Confidence,” who–as she quotes in her Instagram bio–has “saved you a seat at the throne.” When she was a freshman at Duke University, she decided to change her middle name to “Fucking” (WTF Is SFK? We Meet Serena Fucking Kerrigan, Duke's Queen Bee, 2015). This solidified her confidence, and when she felt insecure, she could remind herself that she was actually “Serena Fucking Kerrigan.”
But, Kerrigan is not just a social media influencer. At the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, people could no longer go on regular dates, so Kerrigan created a solution. During her time in isolation, she took one of the biggest risks of her life and left her safe, everyday job to launch her own brand, Let’s F**king Date. Let’s F**king Date is a card game that makes it easy to get deep in no time at all; it’s a way to make first dates less uncomfortable, and in turn, makes it easier for people to attend them.
Since then, Kerrigan has taken this brand further. Now there are three versions of the game including Let’s Fucking Date, Let’s Fucking Fuck and Let’s Fucking Play. Each forces people to ask deeper questions to learn if they actually like each other or not. In Kerrigan’s words, you will learn if the relationship is a “Fuck yes” or a “fuck no” (ABOUT - Let's Fucking Date, 2020).
Not only did Kerrigan change the way that people go about first dates, but also she has transformed gender expectations in dating. Women, in particular, have been taught at a young age to let the man do the guidance on a date, while. You are not supposed to be too forward, talk too loud or ask too many questions. You have been taught to basically sit still and look pretty if you want to go on another date.
Instead of telling women to “dress up” and “look pretty,” Kerrigan sends a message of self-empowerment. She teaches women to wear what they are confident in, not what anyone tells them they should wear. Further, she encourages women to take up space and be loud, rather than fearing to ask for what they want.
As a woman, the dating world can be scary. It is people like Kerrigan that actively make it less frightening to go on dates. By launching her brand, she encourages women to feel confident in the dating world. She allows them to ask uncomfortable questions or discuss taboo topics, all while pushing them to feel self-love. That’s a fuck yes!
