Met Gala Red Carpet Review 2017

By Tenley Sanduski, Fashion Writer

Every year my invite to the Met Gala suspiciously gets lost in the mail, but that doesn’t stop me from enjoying all the incredible fashion. This year’s attendees showed up looking fierce. The theme, Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons, encouraged the guests to wear avant garde looks, which can easily be hit or miss. Here are the stars that were definitely a hit!

As much as it pains me to praise the Kar-Jenners, I have to start with Kendall. She looks absolutely incredible. Being a supermodel and one of the only people in the world who could pull this look off, I don’t blame her for bearing so much skin. In her case, the sheerness of the gown is tasteful and beautiful.

Up next on my best-dressed list is Ashley Graham. Ashley is always stunning, but in this dress she is on a whole new level. As a role-model to many and fellow Nebraskan like me, I love her message of body positivity and self love. So, maybe I’m bias but she definitely nailed it tonight!

Halle. Berry. WOW! She has always been one of my favorite style icons and tonight was certainly no exception. I love everything about it, from the sheerness, to the embellishments, to the makeup, she looks amazing.

No red carpet would be complete without Blake Lively. No best-dressed list would be complete without her either, for that matter. As usual, Blake showed up gorgeous and glowing with her hottie hubby in tow. Can we just take a second to appreciate the bottom of this dress?! I simply can’t get enough of those blue feathers. Anyone else getting some major Plumette vibes from the silhouette?

On the topic of power couples, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen continue to be goals while on the Met steps tonight. Chrissy’s dress is beautiful, especially with the coordinating hair piece and husband. Dressed to kill in black and white, these two are knockouts. I only wish Luna could have joined them on the carpet!

Dakota Johnson is looking 50 shades of fabulous in this dramatic black gown. The deep-v shows just the right amount of cleavage to be sexy without going overboard. I also love the mix of textures on the gown. The gown features romantic ruffled rosettes, contrasted with more contemporary, horizontal black bands. The balance of simple and bold is tied together beautifully with her rosy makeup and smokey eyes.

Ok, I can’t go on any longer without acknowledging Rihanna. She is the night’s biggest standout, nailing the theme by wearing Comme des Garçons. Easily the hardest look ever to pull off, RiRi somehow made it look easy. She is the epitome of Met Gala fashion in this avant garde look. I especially love how she styled the gown with lots of jewels and thigh-high strappy sandals. Her hair and makeup are also on point.

To round out my list are two of my favorite supermodels, Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski. Both beauties look sleek and sexy in head-to-toe glittery ensembles. If I had to guess where Marc Jacobs found the inspiration for Emily’s gown, I’d put my money on Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Starry Night.

Bella on the other hand went for a less colorful look in a skintight, off-the-shoulder jumpsuit. Her sultry makeup and diamond, wrap-around snake bangles tie it all together. I am flat-out obsessed.
