Masters of Sex
Sundays, 9 p.m., Showtime
Dubbed the scientific version of Mad Men, Masters of Sex is based off the real-life studies of William Masters and Virginia Johnson. It’s alright if you don’t recognize the names – just know that they revolutionized what we now know about sex. This hour-long drama promises scandal, orgasms, and the comeback of Janis Ian – I mean Lizzy Caplan. Unanimously named the best new drama of fall, this show is one that won't disappoint.

Reign
Thursdays, 8 p.m., The CW
“Gossip Girl meets Game of Thrones” in this scandalous period piece about Mary Queen of Scots. Between the arranged marriages, assassination attempts, foreboding prophecies, and steaming affairs, this show has a little something for everyone. While history majors may walk away from the pilot with complaints, the rest of us can expect to sit back and get allured into the sexy, slightly supernatural world of 16th century France.

Super Fun Night
Wednesdays, 8:30 p.m., ABC
Pour yourself a glass, gather your girls, and celebrate hump day the right way by tuning into ABC’s newest comedy. In Rebel Wilson’s primetime debut, Super Fun Night follows the antics of three introverts as they vow to finally step outside their comfort zone (and apartment). If the irony of staying in while watching girls go out doesn’t win you over, at least you finally have an excuse to finish off a bottle of Barefoot on a school night.

Returning Shows
American Horror Story: Coven
Wednesdays, 9 p.m., FX
American Horror Story is back for a third season of chills. Show creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk know how to build anticipation (read: keep things top secret), but we do know that the upcoming season is filled with southern secrets and the surviving Salem witches. And for those of you that had trouble sitting through last season’s gore, you’re in luck – Murphy and Falchuk promise more fun, less gore (though I question their definition of “fun”).

Awkward
Tuesdays, 9:30 p.m., MTV
Awkward left us hanging in June with an unimaginable affair that left thousands of #TeamMatty fan girls shouting obscenities at their television screens (or, wait, was that just me?). The mid-season premiere picks up with Jenna once again torn between two guys. But don’t expect hashtag wars to ensue this time around. Awkward seems to be taking a turn for the serious, chastising Jenna’s boy balancing act and showing that her mistakes really do have consequences.

Thursdays, 7 p.m., The CW
Going up against shows like True Blood and Dracula (NBC’s gory new drama), Vampire Diaries has managed to hold its own for four seasons and counting. This season, the stakes are raised – the gang has graduated and there are more doppelgängers running around Virginia than I can keep track of. Long gone are the love triangles and prom drama, now replaced by the greater evils of college-level calculus and the biggest bad yet, Silas.
