Oscars Red Carpet:
Timothee Chalamet has served several interesting looks over the years, taking some less than ideal turns; nevertheless, Chalamet’s commitment to fashion as a form of personal expression and visual narrative has only grown with his fame. Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton’s creative director on women's collections, personally designed Chalamet’s striking black and sequined tuxedo ensemble (Munzenrieder, 2022). With the unconventional choice of no shirt, a solitary Cartier silver panther necklace hung from Chalamet’s neck, gently accenting the otherwise all-black ensemble.
Zoë Kravitz, star of “The Batman,” turned in her dark latex fits for Old Hollywood glam in a baby pink strapless gown by Anthony Vaccarello for Saint Laurent (People, 2022). With diamond jewels, soft makeup and baby bangs, Kravitz paid homage to the timeless beauty of Audrey Hepburn.
Lily James looked ethereal in a stunning Versace gown (Escalante, 2022). The delicate pink lace and sheer chiffon train adorned with embroidered flowers perfectly contrasted the look’s sexy undertone—the form-fitting bodice and ultra-high slit. With a bright and shining smile, James was glowing on the carpet.
Jessica Chastain looked like an absolute goddess in Gucci (Petak, 2022). The gown featured a sequin bronze plunging neckline that faded into an iridescent lilac skirt with ornate chiffon floral embellishments along the hem. Chastain accessorized the look with silver jewels and a sleek high ponytail. This whimsical gown perfectly fit her and complimented her fiery red hair.
Megan Thee Stallion dazzled on the red carpet in a diva-glamorous inspired gown by Indian designer Gaurav Gupta (Legardye, 2022). The magical gown slunk down in long sheets of chiffon and sequin, all colored by a sleek and refined slate blue. Megan’s hair, chicly slicked back into a tight bun, crowned the entire outfit with marked assiduousness. Regal diamond and sapphire jewelry completed the ensemble, capturing a fashion moment that will undoubtedly continue to turn heads and elate minds.
Tracee Ellis Ross walked the carpet in a sophisticated fiery red Caroline Herrera dress accessorized with a diamond and pearl choker necklace (Joseph, 2022). The plunging sweetheart neckline, ruffled mermaid hem and fitted bodice exquisitely accentuated her silhouette, and she paired the outfit with red pointed-toe pumps. The 49-year-old actress did not look a day older than 30!
Lupita Nyong’o absolutely dazzled in her shimmering Prada gown, taking a refreshed and enchanted approach to gold, sequins and their applicability to a modern fashion wardrobe (Hubbard, 2022). The dress's intricate design took countless hours to make, and it shows. Her dress truly dazzles from every angle, resembling either a ray of pure golden sunshine or some gold-leafed Klimt painting. To tie this bold look together, De Beers diamonds and a sumptuously styled updo leave no room for error (Hubbard, 2022).
On and off the silver screen, Sophia Carson exudes royalty. Her Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown was fit for the queen (Stivale, 2022). The black was a classic, regal choice that made Carson stand out from the bright-colored dress trend. Her huge tulle skirt beautifully contrasted with the corset-boned bustier. The sheer tulle wrapped around Carson’s shoulder adds another flirty element to the romantic look.
Demi Singleton looked like a seasoned Oscars attendee, when in fact, it was the 15-year-old’s first Academy Awards. The lilac Miu Miu gown was an incredible fashion moment for the “King Richard” star (Marine, 2022). The just shy of floor-length gown was the perfect color on Singleton, and her cascading slicked back braid complemented the heavily beaded bodice. Needless to say, we cannot wait to see more of Demi Singleton.
Vanity Fair After Party:
With buzz surrounding Hunter Shaefer and Dominic Fike’s relationship, this red carpet debut had many wondering what these two would serve; fortunately, the couple seemed nothing but bliss with Fike sporting a simple but elegant Saint Laurent suit and Shaefer in a neutral techno-futuristic Rick Owens gown (Messina, 2022). Fike’s electric-blueberry-cotton-candy-colored hair certainly stands out but works with this year's undercurrent fashion themes supporting bold and bright color use.
Daisy Edgar Jones looked pretty in pink on the carpet. The “Fresh” actress wore a lime-green and candy-pink Versace dress (All the Best Looks From the Oscars 2022 After-Parties, 2022), and the unique details were gorgeous—the fuzzy hem along the neckline, the corset-style bodice and the thin black straps around the waist. Jones accessorized the look with lime-green heels and blingy jewels but went simple with hair and makeup.
After winning Best Actress for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” Jessica Chastain shined on the red carpet in yet another Gucci look (Oscar Winner Jessica Chastain Is a Green Goddess at Oscars 2022 After Party With Her Husband!, 2022). The green mermaid-inspired gown featured a satin bodice and shiny ruched detailing. Green is a red head’s best friend, and this look was most definitely made for Chastain.
Emma Chamberlain and boyfriend Tucker Pillsbury, aka Role Model, made their red carpet debut, and we are obsessed! Chamberlain stunned in a Louis Vuitton black satin gown with a high neckline and open back (Nation, 2022). She topped off the look with sultry liner and a slicked-back messy bun. Pillsbury's streetwear take on a suit, a black bomber and trousers designed by Burberry, complemented Chamberlain perfectly (Pillsbury, 2022).
Dakota Johnson dazzled in a fairytale Gucci dress (All the Best Looks From the Oscars 2022 After-Parties, 2022). Every detail on the garment was beautifully executed from the dusty rose flowing feathers and voluminous sleeves to the plunging neckline and glittering sequins.
Once again, we see Timothee Chalamet in an all-black ensemble, but this time, embracing leather and streetwear for a decidedly more quintessential Chalamet look. The leather and denim core jacket and jeans from Alexander McQueen channel an almost Ye-themed goth aesthetic with shiny Christian Louboutin boots (GQ, 2022). This more casual ensemble still exudes a chic interpretation of biker gear, falling in with other trends. This is a fine look for an after-party, though it feels more like a rumble behind the high school than an Oscars celebration.
Maude Apatow arrived at the after-party in Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello as part of their recent partnership (Hess, 2022). Her character Lexi Howard in HBO’s Euphoria would have been proud, she had her moment—this time without Lexi stealing the spotlight. The dress was a soft silky cream. We are in love with the upcurved cinched upper torso hem, which is definitely the focal point of the piece. The only example needed to prove less is more is exactly what Maude wore.
Thuso Mbedu looked the role of a total it-girl in her polka dot Gucci ensemble (Mbedu, 2022). The black dots, which are actually made from an intricate beading pattern look so classic against the cream fabric. Her incredible bedazzled gloves seem more like a piece of jewelry than an accessory-but the bling didn’t stop there. Mbedu’s neck was adorned with a stunning metal bow and sitting right above were the most incredible blue earrings. She has easily secured her spot as an Oscars icon.
Anya Taylor-Joy was the definition of clean and stark in a black tulle bustier dress. The inspiration for this look was to embody lingerie, specifically négligée-style detailing, Taylor-Joy told Vogue (Andrews, 2022). And detailed this dress was, as Dior Paris took 60 hours to produce this piece. The popularity of lingerie-inspired looks has grown exponentially; what sets Anya’s look apart, however, is her old Hollywood glamor makeup and birdcage veil. This all-black, clean yet chic ensemble fits Anya like a glove with her defined cheekbones, making the whole sharp look a show of its own.
