Six upcoming concerts that deserve your money
By Hannah Ritvo, Contributing Writer
After a long, depressing year of no live music, I accidentally spent over $200 on concert tickets. With limited resources, no car to get me places and a busy schedule, I had to think carefully about which concerts to spend my hard-earned money on. As a self-proclaimed expert on the concert scene, here are some upcoming shows in Madison that I believe you should definitely buy tickets for. You deserve it!
Summer Salt: October 8, 2021 at The Majestic Theatre
If you’re not one of Summer Salt’s over 1 million monthly Spotify listeners, you really should be. Summer Salt produces indie pop-rock music, and every song they release is amazing. Plus, tickets are only $19! They also have two great openers, folk-rock band Covey and indie band Breakup Shoes, who are accompanying them on their tour. Give them a listen if you haven’t, and you’ll understand why you should shell out 20 bucks to see them.
Caamp: October 23, 2021 at The Sylvee
Caamp is a folk band that I’ve loved for years, and they’ve recently gained popularity. Tickets were under $15 both times I saw them in concert, but now they’re starting at $111. Caamp is on the rise, and if you do decide that they are worth the price, lead singer Taylor Meier has a voice that will make you levitate. They put on a great live performance, and they also have a folk singer, Sam Filiatreua, opening for them.
The Bleachers: Wednesday October 27, 2021 at The Sylvee
Yes, you read that right. The Bleachers are coming to Madison! They’re coming the Wednesday before Halloween and their concert is the perfect way to start off your Halloween weekend bender. Tickets for this one were a little more pricey, at $55, but seeing the Bleachers is worth it. If you’re not convinced yet, another reason to attend this concert is that they have an amazing pop singer, Claud, opening for them.
Slow Pulp: November 4, 2021 at The Majestic Theatre
This Madison-based indie rock band is coming home to play at the Majestic Theatre in early November. Tickets start at $15, and indie-pop band Girl K is opening for them. If you haven’t listened to this small band, I’d recommend trying them out by listening to their song “Idaho.”
The Marías: February 26, 2022 at The Majestic Theatre
If you haven’t heard of the Marias, you’re welcome. If you need an introduction to their music, I would recommend listening to “Hush,” “Hold it Together'' or “Cariño,” my holy trinity of Marías songs. Tickets for this concert are only $29, and they just released a new album, “CINEMA,” in September. I hope everyone is as excited about this concert as I am because February cannot come soon enough.
Still Woozy: February 20, 2022 at The Sylvee
If you’ve listened to Still Woozy before, you know that every song they create is top tier. Some of my favorites are “All Along,” “Goodie Bag” and “Woof.” The indie rock band is coming to Madison in February, and they have an incredibly talented opener, indie pop-rock singer Wallice, coming along with them. Tickets for this concert start at $58.
I hope this list has given you a little something to look forward to as midterms approach. Tickets are only going up in prices, so if any of these concerts interest you, secure a ticket as soon as possible. I’ll see you there!
