Street Smart: Fashionable Friday

There’s truly nothing worse than having to attend an 8:50 am lecture on Friday after an evening of “thirsty Thursday” festivities. The bane of every Badger’s existence, it’s classes like this that result in a look that screams, “I’ve only had three hours of sleep and three minutes to pull myself together.” Composed of Wisconsin apparel, sweat pants, and UGG slippers, this look has at some point reserved us all a VIP seat on the Friday morning struggle bus – a fact that not everyone can take pride in.

Yet this Friday morning was different. As I was walking down Langdon in my own lackadaisical sweatshirt-and-leggings ensemble, I spotted Nikki Fasciglione whose outfit choice did not appear as though it was the result of a lack of sleep or a throbbing headache. Quite impressed, I knew I had to approach this hero for defying campus’s unfashionable odds.

A sophomore from Dix Hills, NY, Nikki’s ensemble epitomized the transition of fall in a chic yet casual way as she mixed both summery and autumn-appropriate pieces. Rocking a slightly hipster look, Nikki donned loose-fitting floral shorts, a jean jacket, lace-up boots, and a pair of effortlessly cool Ray Bans. Though still relaxed enough for class, Nikki’s look definitely cast a spotlight on her. Unconventional and stylish, it was truly a shame that I was one of the only individuals to witness Nikki’s “A+” attire so early in the day. Surely had there been a few other passers-by, or perhaps a few frat boys, there would have been more than just a couple of heads turning and undoubtedly a few jealous stares as well.
