This season it was obvious: in terms of footwear, boots were dubbed as the way to make a statement this fall. However, with several interpretations of different styles presented on the runway, it can be difficult to choose which kind of boots you should incorporate into your wardrobe. Thus, in order to make your transition into fall style a little bit easier, our Fashion Team has assembled the following boot guide to show you which styles you should be falling head-over-heels for. Whether you prefer sexy ankle booties, daring over-the-knee styles, or edgy motorcycle boots, you’ll be sure to find a pair that will function for class, a night out, or a lazy afternoon sipping your beloved pumpkin spice latte. Sound perfect? We couldn’t agree more. Cheers to starting your season of style on the right foot.
Ankle
Ankle boots of various shape, color, and material graced designers’ fall 2013 collections more than just a few times. In fact, the shoe trend appeared so often that the idea of originality almost seemed unreasonable. Yet nevertheless, novelty was achieved with distinctive ankle boot styles suitable for all facets of a fashionable life.
Presenting styles practical enough to complement any college woman’s obligations, many of the ankle boot styles this season were practical enough to incorporate into any individual’s wardrobe. With heel height playing a major role in functionality, many women refrain from embracing this trend. From stiletto heels to stacked styles, the ankle boot comes in a variety of heights. Though a stiletto may not be the most appropriate choice for class, a shorter, chunkier heel allows for a reasonable compromise.
Yet height is not the only deciding factor in choosing your perfect style especially with the array of materials there are to choose from. With leather, snakeskin, suede, and patent leather as options, any wardrobe can be accommodated. Look especially for ankle booties with cut-outs, buckles and other embellishments to truly make a statement this season.
Over-the-Knee
As attention-grabbing and sexy as over-the-knee boots can be, they’re arguably one of the most challenging boot styles to wear. For a college student who’s rushing to class and library outings, it can be a challenge to incorporate over-the-knee boots into a casual ensemble without overdoing it and looking shamefully overdressed.
So what’s the secret to pulling off this trend? Simply put, it’s all in the balance. Since the boots are tight-fitting and higher than the casual riding boot, pairing them with a flowy dress or tunic will create the desired look of balanced bliss. The go-to boot, sweater and leggings combo can also be achieved with the over-the-knee style as well. Thus there is truly no need to be fearful of this daring trend. At the end of the day, over-the-knee boots are the perfect excuse to take a risk with your fall wardrobe, making them a trend you definitely won’t want to pass up.
Motorcycle
When it comes to stocking your wardrobe with the essentials this season, a pair of killer motorcycle boots equipped with bold hardware and studded embellishments should most certainly be one of your must-haves. An edgy-yet-casual choice for fall, these boots are available in a variety of colors and styles, with the defining details being a short shaft and ultra-durable soles.
On the catwalk, Saint Laurent represented the trend best, but off the runway numerous brands have showcased this style including Free People, Urban Outfitters, ZARA, and Madewell. To rock this trend, the key is to not be intimidated by its edgy nature. Though some choices are bolder than others, moto boots can be a great way to add an unexpected twist to any ensemble. For the highest impact, wear them in contrast with a more feminine ensemble. Not only will you turn heads, but you’ll add dimension to your look; creating an exciting ensemble that will keep any fashionista on her toes.
