Protect your pout.

I am a lip balm addict. I keep one in my backpack, one in each of my purses, a few in my dorm, and I’ll even find some in random coat pockets. I know it sounds crazy, but I probably apply lip balm at least ten times a day. I’ve collected many types of lip balms over the years, and obviously, I’ve become a pro at distinguishing the good from the bad.

What makes a “good” lip balm, you may ask? Qualities to look for are the ability to soothe, soften, and protect lips as well as to heal lip damage, like chapped skin.

Tinted or clear, here are the best lip balms to add hydration and shine to your pout.

Ok, so this product isn’t technically a lip balm, but it’s my go-to for lip care. As advertised, it soothes and softens, leaving my lips feeling healthy and hydrated. Not to mention, it adds a clear, very glossy finish to my lips that I adore.

This untinted lip balm was gifted to me by a friend who used it while on Accutane, so you know it’s legit. It’s made from 100% naturally sourced ingredients that instantly smoothes and moisturizes my lips. I personally use the Soothing Vanilla balm, however, it’s offered in many other flavors like Eucalyptus Mint, Fresh Citrus, and Coconut Hydration.

If you’re looking for a light tint, not as bold as a lipstick, this product is perfect for you. Burt’s Bees comes in an array of neutral pink tones, my favorite being Red Dahlia, a sheer rose. The balm promises moisture, is 100% natural, and comes in recyclable packaging.

My family is a big fan of this product; we keep a tub in each bathroom inside our house. However, it also comes in a small, travel-friendly tube. Aquaphor is the #1 dermatologist recommended lip care brand, providing long-lasting moisture to your lips.

This balm comes in a variety of sheer tints, either shimmer or satin finish, as well as a regular clear shade. It helps with dryness as well as uneven texture and even includes SPF 15 to protect your lips from the sun. Overall, this product is on the pricier side but has a lot to offer, keeping your lips healthy.

As we approach winter, our skin gets dry and cracked. Keep these tried and true lip balms in mind next time you find yourself roaming the aisles of Walgreens or your favorite makeup store!
