Café Review: Bradbury’s

I happened upon Bradbury’s soon after moving to Madison and it became a fast favorite. The café lies across from the Children’s Museum on the outer loop that makes it a convenient ten-minute bike ride from most places on campus, with the perk of retreating from the class-to-class hustle and bustle. The café has a wonderful community feel that draws you in just as soon as your foot crosses the threshold. Long, communal tables are strategically placed within the tiny café along with an open, home-like kitchen and floor to ceiling windows to create the illusion of a wide-open space. The exceptionally friendly staff also adds to the coffeehouse’s laid-back ambiance.

As a self-proclaimed coffee snob, I was overjoyed with the discovery of Bradbury’s espresso; it is by far the best I have found in Madison. They brew beans from the Wisconsin-based Kickapoo Coffee, a small batch, community and environmentally minded roaster. The baristas consistently make delicious and beautiful coffee and lattes.

In addition to their wonderful coffee, Bradbury’s serves up crepes that could hold their own against any flapjacks in Madison. Their menu alternates with the seasons as they source almost all of their ingredients from local farms right down to the flour and eggs. The specials are based on what fruits and vegetables are in season at the time as well. For such an amazing plate of food with the best ingredients available within the region, their menu is very reasonably priced with no crepe exceeding ten dollars. They also offer muffins and scones that are made in house daily with the same local ingredients.

Escape from your routine with a latte and a crepe at Bradbury’s. Go on a weekend morning to take in the myriad of farmer’s-market-goers or stroll in at a quieter afternoon hour to study. Crepes are dished up all day from 6:30am to 6:30pm Mondays through Saturdays and until 5:30pm on Sundays.
