Virgil Abloh’s First Louis Vuitton Collection Arrives in Stores

UW-Madison alum, Virgil Abloh, has made a name for himself as the designer behind streetwear brand, Off-White, as well as a friend, consultant, and confidante to a slew of stars including Serena Williams and Kanye West. Most recently, he has added the artistic director of Louis Vuitton men’s wear to his repertoire of titles. This weekend, his SS19 collection—the first he has designed for the brand—became available for purchase. Select pieces are available for a limited time this month before they will relaunch in January according to Hypebeast. The line is Wizard of Oz-inspired, with a pop-up store in London pulling color inspiration more similar to a Disney ride than a high-fashion retail location.

Zendaya New Face of Tommy Hilfiger

Move over, Gigi—there’s a new girl in town. Zendaya has replaced Gigi Hadid in her position as “global women’s ambassador” for Tommy Hilfiger. Glamour reports that Zendaya’s role will entail creating a capsule collection with Hilfiger, as Hadid did previously.

Tokyo Fashion Week attendees brought out all the stops last week as they demonstrated the city’s superiority in street style captured by Vogue. Remembering Wanda Ferragamo

Last Friday saw the passing of Wanda Ferragamo, the 96-year-old widow to Salvatore Ferragamo, who had taken over the iconic label after his passing in 1960. According to Fortune, Wanda “turned her husband’s Italian shoe company into a luxury-goods empire and fulfilled his dream of dressing the customer from head to toe.” Wanda ran the company longer than her husband did, notably dressing Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe during her reign. Wanda’s legacy and impact on the fashion industry will not be forgotten.

Fashion with a Function: Moncler & UNICEF Partnership Improvements

WWD reports that luxury outerwear company, Moncler, has just “strengthened” its partnership with UNICEF (which began in January ‘18)— the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund. The project is called “Warmly Moncler,” and according to a statement from Moncler, it aims to “offer medicine and basic necessities, newborn kits and blankets to protect from the cold.” With that, the new addition to the partnership entails “facilitating access to education in kindergarten and schools,” as the brand states.
