So it's Friday night and you've found yourself out and about, party hopping with your friends. One apartment leads to another and before you know it, you're absolutely starving. You want to grab a bite to eat, but this time you're hoping to switch things up. Ian's has the best pizza around, but tonight, the line wraps around the block. You simply cannot wait. So where do you go? Plenty of other places have late-night menus, and this week, we recommend The Old Fashioned.

Situated right behind the capital on the corner of East Mifflin and North Pickney St, this eatery and tavern, with it's welcoming aura and wide-spread seating, has a menu of late-night comfort food items in mind for the night owl, and some may argue their Wisconsin beer battered cheese curds are the best around. In fact, I tried them myself. Dipped in one of their several choice dips, smoked paprika to be exact, these cheese curds had that signature melt-in-your-mouth after-taste that have yet to compare to any previous curds I have ever consumed.

I enjoyed these cheese curds along with their No. 36: Beer mattered walleye sandwich with shredded cabbage, shaved radish and house-made lemon caper tartar sauce. The choice of white, whole-grain, and gluten-free bread was a nice touch as well, great for people of all tastes and tolerances. Luckily, they serve their expansive dinner menu until midnight Wednesday-Saturday, so if you squeeze yourself in earlier on in the night, affordable options, ranging from salads, sandwiches, and of course their notorious Mac & Cheese, are available. If not, a list of appetizers, from cheese curds to Haystack Onion Strings, eagerly awaits your order, along with beer and spirits if you are of age.

The Old Fashioned is open seven days a week, with its latest hours running Wednesday-Saturday from 9:00 am - 2:00 am, giving you plenty of time to settle in and enjoy the remainder of your evening.

Instead of waiting in a long line, enjoy your food while lounging in the tavernesque ambiance of The Old Fashioned while making memories with your closest friends. So go ahead, give The Old Fashioned a try, "Where Wisconsin is King.”
